At first it changes nothing. Then the manifests come back, and the notes begin to touch: a keeper reads what a keeper three gates away wrote and sees they've been undoing each other for years; Toma matches a wrong lake to a fix logged nowhere. The contradictions resolve into one picture — no saboteur, no single part — and the manifests don't repair the gates, they let the people who repair the gates finally see each other. One stubborn crossing at a time, the gates begin to hold.
