Central question: What becomes scarce when information and fluent answers are no longer the limiting constraint?
Responsible inheritance distinguishes the value a practice protects from the form that carried it. Practices forged under scarce information now meet artificial intelligence that can summarize a tradition fluently while hiding the differences integration requires—raising a new scarcity around attention and formation.
The last part asked what traditions carry.
They carry memory, adaptation, discipline, identity, and power. They preserve practices developed under conditions later generations may no longer understand. Some of those practices remain wise. Some become sediment. Many do both at once.
To inherit responsibly, we must learn to distinguish the value a practice protects from the historical form through which it has traveled. That requires attention to context, humility about the present, and enough respect for difference that one tradition is not reduced to the vocabulary of another.
Science, philosophy, and spiritual traditions do not offer interchangeable answers. They ask different questions, recognize different authorities, and seek different ends. Yet they repeatedly confront a familiar human being—distracted, overconfident, dependent on community, vulnerable to self-deception, capable of preserving wisdom and error through the same institutions.
The practices examined in this book were shaped in worlds where information was often scarce, difficult to preserve, and controlled by a limited number of institutions. That world is changing.
Artificial intelligence can summarize a tradition, compare interpretations, generate objections, or produce a plausible synthesis in seconds. Fluency does not tell us whether understanding has occurred. Abundant intelligence does not remove the need for attention, judgment, courage, responsibility, memory, or trustworthy community. It may make those capacities more important.
When answers become easy to produce, the scarce resource becomes the ability to decide which questions matter—and which differences must remain visible rather than compressed into a single fluent paragraph.
The next part turns toward that future—not to ask whether ancient traditions predicted artificial intelligence, which they did not need to do, but to confront the human limitations that remain after intelligence becomes abundant. The question is no longer only what machines will be able to do. It is what human beings will still need to practice.
