When Others Become Leaders stands fully on its own. You do not need to read any other book in the After Certainty series first.

Its closest companion is When Others Look To You, which examines what happens when attention and authority gather around someone — when influence renews, erodes, or becomes difficult to question. This book asks what happens next: whether that influence leaves behind more capable people and communities, or dependence on the original figure.

Both books use the word circulation for influence that can move through people, practices, and temporary leadership — not only around a central person. Circulation is not automatically healthy; cruelty and domination also spread. The introduction names that caution; the chapters return to it through specific lives and limits.
