Power: What Attention Creates

Power is not first a possession.

It is often a consequence of collective attention. A room turns. A voice becomes easy to hear. A role begins to gather questions before anyone has conferred legitimacy. Influence hardens into expectation, and expectation into obligation.

Power also depends on who gets to shape the shared order, and on how much force a person or institution can apply at a distance. Participation can create legitimacy. Leverage can create responsibility. Neither arrives automatically with visibility.

In the chapters that follow, reality answers through furniture, cloth, and steel: the empty chair that changes a room, the shared textile that no single hand can claim, the long wrench that multiplies force and, with it, consequence.
